Car Accident Updates from Maryland

The DMV has seen its fair share of car accidents lately, especially in Maryland. Read below to see some of the latest accidents just outside of our nation’s capital and learn about what to do if you or a loved one is injured because of someone else’s negligence.

Bethesda Crash Injures 5

It was in early June when police were called to the accident scene involving a car that had flipped several times with three teens inside.  According to ABC 7 News, “Three cars collided on River Road and Burdette Road, in the area of the Capital Beltway (I-495). MCFRS and the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) responded to the scene around 9:27 p.m.”

The people involved have non-life-threatening injuries, which is hard to believe given the images published on the news site. However, each of the victims should contact a personal injury lawyer, since they all had injuries. A police investigation will determine who was at fault, and attorneys can work to ensure auto insurance adjusters properly cover any applicable expenses related to the injuries.

Crash Kills One in Bowie

Unfortunately, the driver in this incident was not able to walk away from this car crash alive. DC News Now writes, “The two-vehicle collision took place on U.S. Route 301 near Mill Branch Road in the Bowie community. State police told DC News Now that troopers responded to the area shortly after midnight. A preliminary investigation suggested that a BMW was traveling on U.S. Route 301 when, for unknown reasons, the car left the road and slammed into a tree. The impact caused the tree to fall, resulting in a Mercedes SUV colliding with it.”

While the driver of the Mercedes was not hurt, the BMW driver died from his injuries. This is one of those situations where a medical doctor should have probably evaluated the driver of the Mercedes after the accident. Sometimes pain can set in days after an accident, and TBI symptoms can show over the course of a few days as well. When this happens, a personal injury attorney can help navigate the claim process.

Hagerstown Crash Injures Cop

It’s usually the police helping the injured, but in this recent accident, it was a State Trooper who needed help. The story, on WUSA9 says that a driver ran a red signal and hit the officer’s car.  The article reads, “The crash happened at the Maugans Avenue and Crayton Boulevard intersection around 10 a.m., according to the Maryland State Police (MSP) Hagerstown Barrack.

The injured trooper was going through a green light when a Hummer driver did not stop at a red light and hit the trooper’s car, according to MSP.”

In cases involving serious injuries to law enforcement officers, it is often unclear whether the at-fault driver’s insurance coverage will be sufficient to fully compensate the injured officer for all losses sustained.

While Workers’ Compensation benefits will generally cover medical expenses and a portion of lost wages, those benefits may not provide compensation for the full extent of an individual’s injuries. For that reason, an injured state trooper should consider consulting with an experienced personal injury attorney to evaluate all potential sources of recovery and determine whether additional compensation may be available beyond Workers’ Compensation benefits.
