“Police were called to the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Hewitt Avenue in Aspen Hill around 8:04 p.m. for a report of a pedestrian struck. A man was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. The involved driver remained on the scene, according to officers. The incident shut down northbound lanes of Georgia Avenue (MD-97). First responders were called to the area of North Frederick Avenue and Professional Drive in Gaithersburg around 8:10 p.m. for the report of a pedestrian struck.”
It was later reported that one of the victims died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Five Lives Lost in a Single Weekend Across the DMV
Just weeks earlier, NBC4 Washington reported a devastating series of pedestrian fatalities across the region.
In mid-August – within just a few days – five pedestrians lost their lives in separate crashes throughout the DMV. According to NBC4, four pedestrians were killed while attempting to cross roadways.

- A man who was struck by a Metrobus along Columbia Pike in Fairfax County.
- A woman who was fatally struck by a driver along South Glebe Road in Arlington.
- A 44-year-old man who died after being struck by two vehicles in Dumfries.
- A 29-year-old woman, later identified as Shanell Holiday, who was struck and killed while crossing New York Avenue in Washington, D.C.
- A woman who was killed in Rockville after she and her child were struck by a vehicle at Twinbrook Parkway and Chapman Avenue. Her child survived the crash.
