Part I: 9 Questions You Should Ask Your Personal Injury Lawyer

If you’re searching for a personal injury lawyer, there are plenty of things to consider. Research is important–you’re not going to just close your eyes and choose the first lawyer you see on Google or in the phone book. The best advice is to ask around–personal referrals from people you know and trust are probably the best sources. Another good approach is to do some old-fashioned detective work and read through online reviews–both professional and client. Finally, once you’ve narrowed down your choices, ask lots of questions!

The most direct way to get the answers you’re looking for is to simply ask the lawyer. We’ve already done some of the legwork for you. Here are 5 questions you should ask your personal injury lawyer–and the answers you can expect from The Lapidus Law Firm.  Be on the lookout for our next blog post, which will feature 5 MORE questions you also must ask.

1.   Do you have experience with claims like mine?

Not all personal injury lawyers are alike. Some may have expertise in specific areas—like car accidents; another attorney may specialize mainly in slip-and-fall accidents. Here at The Lapidus Law Firm, we have decades of experience in every type of personal injury law. Whether it’s an auto accident, medical malpractice, a bicycle accident, bed bug bites at a hotel or motel, or any other type of personal injury, you can feel confident knowing that our attorneys are seasoned, successful, and passionate about our clients and their well-being.

2.   What are your fees?

As with most personal injury attorneys, we charge 33% of the gross settlement, somewhat higher if the case goes through the litigation process. If no money is received from the liable party’s carrier or from your own carrier, if the liable party is uninsured, there are no fees. We do not charge for collecting PIP payments in auto cases unless we have to litigate your PIP claim, which is rare.

3.   How long have you been a lawyer?

There’s something to be said for experience–especially the four decades of experience that Larry Lapidus has in the field of personal injury law. He’s seen it all, both inside a courtroom and out, and that’s the type of attorney you want representing you.

4.   What happens if my case goes to trial?

A common misconception about lawyers is that they all have extensive trial experience and that all cases go to trial. This is not always true. In fact, it’s nearly the complete opposite – most personal injury cases never make it to trial.  Each case is different, so we can’t tell you that we’d never go to court or that we’ll go to court no matter what–the specifics and variables of each case matter. But regardless, Larry Lapidus and the attorneys at The Lapidus Law Firm have experience and a strong track record of success in the courtroom and at the negotiating table. So, with us, you’re covered either way.

5.   How often will you and I speak until my claim is resolved?

Communication is key to a successful attorney-client relationship at The Lapidus Law Firm. You and your attorney will maintain open lines of communication through every step of the process. We will keep you informed of every significant development that is going on with your case, whether through Zoom, phone calls, emails, or when the pandemic is over – in-person conferences when requested.
