The New Year is off to a rather quiet start in the DMV, but 2023 closed out with a long list of car accidents. In this blog installment, we’ll cover some of those accidents and share an attorney-point-of-view on what the next steps might be for those involved.
The Fatal Accident in Wheaton
This car accident occurred on December 14th.
According to MOCO 360 Media, “A 19-year-old male driver hit a police car and then struck two other vehicles, killing a passenger in his own vehicle in Wheaton on Wednesday, Montgomery County Police said.”
But it didn’t stop there.
“Police said during a traffic stop around 10:17 p.m., the suspect, in a white Nissan Maxima, struck a marked police cruiser during a traffic Officers attempted to stop the car when the driver collided with a Toyota Corolla and Honda Pilot at Georgia and Henderson avenues, according to police.”
The driver was apprehended, but sadly, his passenger was killed, and four others were also injured in the incident.
If the at-fault driver who was apprehended had insurance, it is likely that his insurance company would be on the hook to cover the cost of the medical bills for those 4 people who were injured. Regarding the passenger who sadly lost his or her life, the insurance company will probably need to pay out funds to the victim’s family for that as well.
A Montgomery County Pedestrian Accident
Another incident occurred on the same day, but this was in downtown Rockville and involved multiple pedestrians near the Montgomery County Circuit Court and County Executive’s Office.
According to MOCO 360 Media: “Around 2:36 p.m., police said they responded to 199 East Montgomery Avenue for the report of multiple people injured after being struck by a vehicle. Three victims were transported to nearby hospitals, according to police.”
The road in that area was shut down temporarily for the accident investigation.
This area (and all of the DMV) is no stranger to pedestrian accidents. Lawyers like those at The Lapidus Law Firm are all too familiar with these claims. For these three pedestrians who were injured, there is likely a plethora of evidence against the driver since there was a full investigation. If cited, the at-fault driver’s insurance company will cover medical expenses and much more.
